Recently: May 2017

How is it May already, and how am I writing my fourth “recently” post? I feel like I JUST started doing this thang. However it happened, it’s almost the end of May and summer is on my front porch about to knock. I love SPRING — summer isn’t my fave. I just run hot and sweating out of all my favorite shirts which is not my idea of a good time. Plus, wedding cake orders in a house with no central air is kind of and literally a HOT MESS. Okay, but things I am looking forward to are: sun, longer days for photoshoots, summer produce, farmers markets, barbecuing, and pool days.

Alright, let’s jump right in!

Recently, I’ve been…

Taking *some time off from the blog. As you’ve noticed, I am still here, but I’ve pulled back a bit this month as a way to sorta regroup. I’m now helping out with my sister’s softball team, Daniel is now into baseball playoffs and we started Whole 30. I am not super woman, and juggling all these things plus my job and my freelancing schedule was darn near impossible.

And let’s be honest, all of those reasons were coated with the overarching feeling of burnout. It wasn’t necessarily with blogging. It was that social media comparison game that we all do. I’m guilty, you’re guilty, let’s just be guilty together. I see so many amazing things that people are doing, and watching where they are going, and I’ve been feeling very stagnant. In an effort to regain some originality and self r-e-s-p-e-c-t, I’ve slowed down and found some grace.

Recently, I’ve been asked…

If I would do a cake decorating tutorial. Which, seriously, YEEEEES. I’m trying to figure out how to do that. Maybe a YouTube kind of a thing or a post with tons of pictures. Should I give a recipe too? Plus, there are so many frostings to choose from. I don’t know, I’m figuring it out. If you have any suggestions I have open ears! Also, if there are questions you want answered i.e. “best frosting for buttercream roses” or “why crumb coat?” or “are room temp eggs that important?” I WANT TO KNOW! Comment, e-mail, message, wherever and however… I’d love to hear from you.

Recently, I’ve taken on…

Oh my gosh, so excited! Daniel and I have taken on sprucing up our back deck. We have cleaned, sanded, de-mossed (is that a word?), and painted the railing. Next up is staining the deck, putting in some plant boxes, stringing some solar panel lights, and setting up our new, very small, table and chairs. You guys, it’s going to be so cute! And YES, I will be posting pictures of the finished product. For now, here are some nice process shots. The vision for the deck is that it will be a whimsical, playful, and colorful place for us to enjoy the outside. I just can’t wait!

Real question: What natural/non harmful candles or products can I use outside to keep the bugs away from that area?!?!?!

Recently, my Type 1 has been…

Kind of the same. Ups and downs. I feel like I’m living in fear that I’m doing this all wrong. But, as with any health journey, there has to be grace. I’m learning and constantly trying to soak up all the info I can get. More than anything, I have to listen to what my body is trying to tell me at any moment. What it requires one day, won’t be what it requires the next. That takes patience and forgiveness. It’s only been 214 days of this.

Recently, I’ve been thankful for…

The sun, ya’ll!!!! Oh my gosh, I know I say this a lot, but I need the sun to survive at a functioning level. It transforms me from THIS into THIS. I love it. I need it.

Recently, my yard looks like this…

Recently, I’ve been eating…

Well, I’ve been on Whole 30 so a lot of meat, veggies, and fruit! But, I am transitioning out, and I’ve finally had what I’ve been craving: Tillamook ice cream! Pure happiness to me. My plans for upcoming dinners this week are: Blackened Salmon Tacos, Cilantro Lime Coconut Chicken, Maple Chicken and Summer Vegetable Quick Flatbread. Planning to do that last one over the BBQ once the porch is completely finished!Food blogger, Karlee Flores of Olive and Artisan, walks through a month in the life.

Recently, I’ve been loving…

Taking family photos! It’s literally been a BLAST! Plus, when you get to take pictures of some of the cutest kids in the world? That’s a bonus for sure. I mean, just look at these kids. Model status. (Note: The chipped nail polish is my FAVE.)

    1. Wow, Mary! Thank you so much! Yes, grace is the name of the game. I am so enjoying my backyard! I’ts actually PRETTY small but our neighbors grow grapevines right next to us and they are incredible and make the yard seem bigger than it is. Hope you have an awesome Memorial Day weekend!
