Recently: July 2017

I was a little late on my Recently post last month, so here we are again in the blink of an eye! It’s the end of July, and I’m bringing you all up to speed on what’s been happening in my world!

What’s happening is a lot. Too much to go though in one blog post. But, I think we are all in that same boat right now. Summer demands a lot from us. It sucks up my weekends, and my weeknights are a whirlwind of plans, plans, and more plans. Garage sales, family reunions, events, orders, weddings, parties, sleepovers, weekend get-aways, concerts, dinners, and repeat. All good and wonderful things. But, also all draining things for a classic introvert. I’m lagging on my alone time, and I can feel the ache for quiet time in my bones. Therefore…

Recently, I’ve been…

On the go! But you already know that. I don’t suffer in silence. Some of it has been really fun! Some of it has been really stressful. But all in all, I know that at the end of my life, I’ll look back on these times as my most fulfilling. Even when I’m crying over how a cake turned out. This is why I need to say “No thank you, I can’t right now.” I haven’t been able to master that phrase yet. I am a work in progress.

Recently, I’ve loved…

Shooting lighter photography! If you haven’t noticed I’ve made a switch from darker, moody photography to this light and bright situation. I’m not sure what really caused the switch. Maybe it was my internal disposition? Probably not. More than likely I’ll do some more moody shots when fall comes back around, but I am really enjoying this light, pink, sort of girly look right now. I try my best to go where my creative side takes me, and be true to my vision and my heart. It just so happened it took me here and I am smitten. Let me know what you guys prefer if you get a chance!

Recently, I’ve been asked…

To do a workshop! And while, my first love is photography, I think it would be kind of fun to do a cake decorating workshop. I’m thinking it wouldn’t be until the Spring of 2018, but I’m starting to plan it in my head now. Just a fun way to get together and talk cake, blog, flowers, family, and whatever! I guess the only way to really know if I like doing workshops is to give it a go. So as I start planning I’ll give you all more details. Would you be interested in a cake decorating workshop? PLZ, PLZ, PLZ let me know!

OR — let me know if you would be more interested in a food photography workshop or underwater basket weaving. I’m all ears!

Recently, my Type One has been…

Well, it is what it is at this point. Not a lot is going to change. Numbers go up and numbers go down. HOWEVER! I’m going to be doing a walk for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) in PDX this September! I’ll be sure to link my team here when I get a team name, but I would be honored if you would give to this foundation. As JDRF states, “Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease that strikes both children and adults suddenly. It has nothing to do with diet or lifestyle. There is nothing you can do to prevent it. And, at present, there is no cure.” I firmly believe that we need a different name for our disease. That’s why I call it Type One. When people hear the word “Diabetes,” they assume that I brought it on myself, and that I can change it with diet and exercise. This is sorely not the case. In fact:

I would die if all I did was diet and exercise.

That’s why my mission is to educate people about Type One and it’s JDRF’s job to research and find a cure.

My girlfriends are going to come with me with their precious daughters (4 in all!) and support me in this trying time of mine. I’m so thankful for a support system like this.

Recently, I’ve been loving…

Spending time in the sun! I can’t say that I’ve had a lot of time to be with friends. I’ve cancelled a lot of plans with them. But, I finally was able to meet up with them at my friend’s family farm and bask in the sunlight, kiss baby cheeks, and splash around in the lake. Not to mention take pictures!

I also spent some time in the sun at my Aunt and Uncle’s “glamping” in their backyard with the family. To be fair, I just came up for the day since aforementioned business does not stop for me. But, I got to soak in their pool, smell some beautiful flowers, eat some good grub, and take a picture of my gramps sunbathing in the pool. I mean, how cute is he?

Okay! Time to go on with my day! I’ll try to stay grounded, say “no,” and be present. That’s my goal for August. We’ll just have to see how that all works out.

I would love to attend one of your workshops! A cake decorating cake class would be so fun!! Would you be able to incorporate photography and styling tips?

    1. That would be amazing, Amanda!!! I would LOVE to incorporate that! Because, like, I’m obsessed! Maybe like a workshop from “Bake to Take” :).

  2. I would so be interested in a cake decorating workshop! I always say I want to go to one/attend a class and never end up doing it. Love your blog!

  3. Great post Karlee! Loving the lighter photography; but also the darker, moody! Heck, you’re just that good! A workshop sounds great – even if it’s underwater basket weaving!

    1. Haha!! You crack me up. Underwater basket weaving it is!!! Thank you for that! I am really infatuated with both.I just need to make sure there is consistency on both light and dark which I think is what matters most. I cannot wait to shoot some moody fall shots! Ah Fall……
