Browned Butter Nutella Filled Blondies

Browned Butter Nutella Filled Blondies

If the fact that I only managed to apply shadow to one eye this morning is any indication of how crazy my life has been, let’s just collectively agree – I’m tired. I mean, apparently not tired enough to stop the madness. No no no, I’ve taken a liking to insanity. It’s a welcomed madness.

My bed is warm and cozy. The down comforter swallows me in its goodness and I can’t even begin to talk about the flannel sheets. I just can’t. It’s my favorite place in the world and it begs me to stay in it all day. But I wouldn’t know. Its presence is elusive in my life. I’m in it for 15 minutes before I’ve drifted unconscious into dreamland with visions of Browned Butter Nutella Stuffed Blondies dancing in my head.

The point is this: Soon, yes very soon, the busy will subside. I’ll have time to BE in bed before I fall asleep. I’ll remember the feeling of a slow morning and effortlessly stroll down to the farmers market. I’ll find the presence of mind to put shadow on not one, but two eyelids. And maybe then we’ll see if I can bang out more than one recipe per week.

Let’s not get ahead of ourselves. I’m still in it. I wouldn’t want it any other way. I’m chasing this crazy dream of mine and the only way to do it is to lose a little bit of sleep in the process. One thing I’m not losing sleep over are these blondies. Loves-of-my-life blondies. Melt in your mouth blondies. Warm/nutty/smoky/salty blondies. Let’s make them together, friends. Let’s find a few minutes in our day to hit the high notes of browned butter. Let’s use this excuse to buy the jumbo tub of Nutella because we want some leftovers for the fridge.

Here’s the deal with this recipe: it’s really easy. Sure, it takes some time and concentration to spread that first thin layer of batter across the bottom of a slippery sheet of parchment. But it’s worth the dedication to get it right the first time. I regret nothing. Because filling desserts is primo. Filling desserts with Nutella is life giving. Filling your mouth with the caramel-y Browned Butter Nutella Stuffed Blondies is just… necessary.

Pretty soon I’ll have time to wake up slowly and make blondies in a sun-soaked kitchen. I’ll have the leisure to take a stroll around the block. I’ll have a day to spend in my terribly comfortable bed that misses me so much. Until then, you can find me doing all the things in all the places on all the days.

  • Yield: 20 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

3/4 cup butter, browned

2 cups brown sugar, packed

2 eggs

2 teaspoons vanilla

2 cups flour, AP

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon baking soda

1 cup nutella

1 chocolate bar, chopped

Flaked salt to top

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

Melt butter in a small saucepan. Continue to cook over medium heat until the butter foams and starts to brown. Take off the heat and add in the brown sugar. Stir until combined.

Let the butter/sugar mixture cool for about 10 minutes then add in the eggs and vanilla.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and stir together until well combined.

Grease a 9×13 pan and line with parchment. Scoop out half of the dough all around the pan and smooth out as best as possible. Scoop out the nutella and smooth across the dough evenly. Repeat with the top layer of batter. Sprinkle the chopped chocolate on top.

Place in the oven for 20-25 minutes.

Take out of the oven and sprinkle with flaked sea salt.

Wait at least 30 minutes before cutting and serving.

  1. I’m going to need to make these soon – Nutella AND browned butter! I had better wait until I have company over though – these could be trouble… Thanks for another great recipe!

  2. Hi there! Enjoying all your recipes. The photos are stunning! Curious, which chocolate bar did you chop at the end. It has like a two tone that looks beautiful and agrees with the concept. Please share!?
