Water Color Floral Eggs

Watercolor Floral Eggs

Everyone and their mother carves a pumpkin in the fall but decorating an egg for Easter has lost its appeal somewhere between the smells of vinegar and a sulfur-y egg. Don’t you kind of want to do it again? Don’t you want to have a carton full of colorful eggs in your fridge this weekend? Shouldn’t you at least give it a try and watercolor your eggs this year?

That’s what I thought! Okay okay okay, friends. Let’s crack open a window, maybe put on some plastic gloves if you just got your nails did and play your favorite music. Might I suggest the Titanic soundtrack? Now let your inner Bob Ross come out. I’d say these little watercolor eggs are extremely easy and so fun to make with friends!

Speaking of which, I made these with my new friend, Molly Reihl from MORE Good Day Oregon this week.  Watch my segment here!. It might be better than having to read my ramblings about Titanic and sulfur-y eggs. Just a thought.

Here is the deal with these eggs.

What you’ll need:

Some vinegar.

Food coloring.

Little cups for the colors to go in.

A few watercolor brushes or brushes with soft bristles.

A sharpie OR If you intend on eating the egg, here are some food safe pens by Americolor.

A cup of water for corrections, brush cleanings, etc.

Definitely some paper towels because things get messy.

A cooling rack is a great place to let these little eggies dry.

To make the colors, add about 1 teaspoon of vinegar to every drop of food coloring. That’s a good place to start! And then you can add more pigment or thin it out as you desire. There is no hard and fast rule about this. Go with your heart.

And then, you paint blobs! We aren’t worried about perfection. There’s nothing your little brush can do that a sharpie can’t correct with a swirl and a dot. POOF! What once was a large green spot of color is now a tulip! Just wait about 20-30 minutes for the eggs to dry before decorating with the pen.

So, have some fun with egg decorating this year! Bask in all things floral and SPRINGGGGGG. It’s finally here. 🙂
